What will I learn on this module?

The module will help you to understand key vocabulary and concepts underpinning culture and provide the tools to understand how culture may impact on effective communication. Through application of cultural models and reflective exercises, you will enhance your self-awareness, preparing you to navigate group work more successfully.

How will I learn on this module?

You will engage in interactive discussions, reflective exercises, and practical activities. Real-world scenarios will be explored to apply intercultural communication concepts. Collaborative group work will foster hands-on experience, and you will receive constructive feedback to enhance your communicative skills. The module prioritises active participation, ensuring a dynamic and practical learning experience.

What will I be expected to read on this module?

All modules at Northumbria include a range of reading materials that students are expected to engage with. Online reading lists (provided after enrolment) give you access to your reading material for your modules. Formative assessment process

You will engage in ongoing reflection on your communication skills and provide and receive feedback on your progress

Summative assessment process

You will present your thoughts on a cultural topic as a group, in addition to completing a reflective statement on your learning.

Module abstract

This module will provide an introduction to the concept of intercultural communication, allowing you to reflect on how culture can affect the ability to communicate effectively. By framing cultural insights, you will gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures and enhance your self-awareness of your own communicative competence. This module equips you with foundational knowledge and skills, laying the groundwork for successful collaboration in diverse study settings.
