Mental Health Nursing BSc (Hons)

What's it like to study at Northumbria?

It's the best thing I've ever done. The course I'm in is amazing, the teachers are amazing and I'm so sad to be in my third year.

Best thing about studying Mental Health Nursing

The teachers and placement. I love being able to see my teachers and my patients every week. It's such a brilliant experience being able to link theory to practice.

Favourite thing to do on campus / community

I love going to Coach Lane library and sitting in the cafe and eating with friends. It feels like a little family.

Course & career goals / industry links

It is quite literally preparing me to become the mental health nurse I'd like to be. Everything I know is from the course.

A time you realised you were capable of more

I originally applied for social work but decided the course wasn't for me. I ended up switching to mental health nursing with the help of my tutor and the support around me from the uni. I was very scared to do so but it is a risk that is paying off.

Support that boosted confidence / ambition

Loads of support from library groups to different employment and nursing opportunities.

Advice for someone considering Northumbria

It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Newcastle is a beautiful city. The nightlife is good. The university itself is a gorgeous modern structure. The staff are beyond supportive. There's loads of things to do on campus and you'll never be bored.
