Where are you from?

Belfast

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I liked the sound of the course and the city.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I like Newcastle a lot - it is a very clean, interesting city with lots of things for students to do. I enjoy going to clubs and bars in the city centre.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

What has surprised me is how cheap the city is - it is very student friendly.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, very welcoming. It is similar to Belfast so it is easy to fit right in.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

I have enjoyed meeting new people on my course and getting the chance to live with my friends.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

Friends I have made in university have helped me the most to settle in and become comfortable in this new environment.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

Older students that I have talked to/become friends with have inspired me to work hard at my degree and have shown me what I can achieve if I put my mind to it.

What is your favourite place on campus?

My favourite place on campus is the Business School - it is very modern and welcoming and a great place to do work.

What is the best thing about your course?

The freedom to do your own study and learn freely without a very strict routine.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

I have learnt that I must give myself adequate time to do assignments and not leave things until the last minute in order to  show my true capabilities - Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I want to work in the marketing/pr sector once i graduate. I have learned valuable communication, organisational and creative skills that will aid me in entering into the work force and becoming successful in my future career path.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I have worked for a PR company in London (Freud Communications) on several occasions. My most memorable experience is attending the events that the PR company was hosting in aid of Marie Curie. Getting the chance to support such a noble charity whilst also meeting celebrity guests who were also helping the charity was a wonderful experience.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

I would say that it takes some time to settle in to University, especially in a city unfamiliar to you, however it is important to stick it out and give it a chance as the fear will pass and you will soon learn to love your time at University.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I have become a lot more confident since starting at Northumbria. Having to move into halls where I knew no one, and attending classes in which I knew no one was extremely hard at first, but soon I became more comfortable talking to strangers and engaging in conversations with people with whom I was unfamiliar.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Fun, fast & inspiring!

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Yes!
