Carlisle, Cumbria

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

Best design course in my opinion. Also close to home but still gives you the independence of living away from home.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

My favourite parts of Newcastle include the Quayside, all the live events and has almost every shop known to man. I also have a season ticket at Newcastle United which is great.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

I want to live here. This is an amazing city; safe, clean and theres always something happening. I like the fact that I live in the city but the sea, beach and country side is next door.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes. Theres lots of available support, including the 24/7 student support and the friendly staff that can be found around campus.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

I have enjoyed learning new things every day on my course but most importantly the social life and events that Northumbria run on campus.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

I would say the design Tutors. Their connection with the industry and their wide array of design knowledge has allowed me to develop new skills which will hopefully lead to a job.

What is your favourite place on campus?

The Design Building.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?

The Royal Navy, 5 a Side football.

What is the best thing about your course?

The connection with real clients and the skilled tutors that run the course.

Always be on time, be ready to work and take a notepad everywhere.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I want to start off as a designer for a consultancy. Get some valuable knowledge on design and then hopefully run my own design business in the future.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I went to Italy to work for the GSK design team. I learnt a little Italian but most importantly learnt new skills to use on my course and future life.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

If you want to join, you have to be committed, willing to learn but most importantly chuck your self into every opportunity whilst you can.
