Christine Stevens

Computer Animation and VFX BSc (Hons)

Where are you from?

Wales.

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

The course looked very good which was my priority. The town, city campus and accommodation offered were also very good.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I really enjoy it. The nightlife is varied so there's something for everyone/every mood. There are loads of shops and street performers in town so it's a generally nice place to go. It's quite a student oriented which makes it easy to meet people.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, they're very friendly and welcoming. Being surrounded by students makes it easy to meet people and make friends.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

The course is really fun and there's a strong sense of community.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

Students and lecturers.

What is your favourite place on campus?

Pandon as it's where the students on my course spend the majority of their time - and Habita.

What is the best thing about your course?

The people, we all help each other so nobody gets left behind.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I want to work in animation (films or games). This first year has focused on laying a lot of the groundwork in order to do animation. A lot of theory and lighting/camera/sound/studio work that will make us all better animators in the long run.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

Not yet, but I plan to in third year

Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.

Only in first year but I think there are plans for a field trip.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Lecturers are a fountain of information, just have a chat with them. The library is also quite extensive so make good use of that.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I feel more confident and sociable having moved away from home as you have to learn to look out and take care of yourself.

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Yes
