Where are you from?
Northern Ireland, Belfast
Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?
I chose it because the course syllabus seemed varied and has plenty of placement opportunities throughout the years. Also, Newcastle has a great reputation as being a student friendly city and Northumbria University was so welcoming and warm when I visited.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
I think Newcastle is a brilliant city. It is always so lively. My favourite things to do are a night out in town, walk along the Quayside, a trip to the beach and of course - shopping!
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
The friendly atmosphere everywhere I go!
Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
Yes, the students on Open Day were so helpful and welcoming.
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
I have a great support network which includes friends, family and tutors in the university. My guidance tutor is fantastic.
Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?
My Guidance Tutor definitely, she gives great support and encouragement. She is really approachable and always gives great advice.
What is your favourite place on campus?
The gym. It is located just a two minute walk from the main campus and the facilities are great. It helps me to relax and have some 'me' time.
Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?
I have joined the OT society. It is great, we discuss current issues, plan OT days out and help each other with difficulties. It is a great club and has strengthened my relationship with many of the cohort.
What is the best thing about your course?
Lots of placement opportunities. I am currently on my second placement and it is a completely different setting from my first placement which enhances learning opportunities.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
Take every opportunity possible and always try your best at everything you do. Also, budget your money wisely.
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
I want to be an occupational therapist. I hope to work with special needs children but this is forever changing. The skill I have developed the most is communication.
Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?
Whilst on placement, I met so many amazing people which really inspire me and give me greater encouragement to carry on working hard at university to get my degree and get out to help individuals just like them.

I would definitely recommend it. It gives you opportunity to learn so much about yourself and to become totally independent.
