Where are you from?
Barnsley
Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?
The lifestyle and social side of campus and the Building Surveying course is rated highly in the UK.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
It's a Small Big City which is ideal for anyone who has not lived in a city before! The Metro makes it easy to get around... obviously drinking and partying in the city centre! Shopping is also great too, and there are some really interesting tourist sites to visit!
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
The accessibility of Newcastle as a city, it's 15 minutes end-to-end in the centre. How friendly everyone is and easy to talk to, and surprisingly the weather's not been too bad either!
Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?
Yes very easy to make friends and find your social path!
What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?
Growing as a person! Socially and academically!
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
Friends, family and lecturers have helped, general staff are always friendly and happy to help also, as stupid a question it may be!
Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?
Friends and peers on the same course; when you see the hard work being put in by other students it makes you want to catch up and improve.
What is your favourite place on campus?
The Zone - it's a new IT lab and is open 24/7! It's a great space!
What is the best thing about your course?
The abundance of learning materials, and the fact I'm studying buildings whilst there is great architecture on my doorstep.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
START WORK EARLY!
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
I want to be a Chartered Surveyor, hopefully working my way up a large company or breaking away on my own.
Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?
I have a placement coming up this year, I'm very excited.
Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.
We went to Edinburgh on a course study trip, it was a great experience. It was all paid for and we fully experienced what Edinburgh had to offer... day and night.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
Learn the city! Be yourself! Don't worry or be nervous! Be open to learning and new experiences!
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?
I have definitely grown in confidence, when I came I didn't know where I wanted to be in ten years. Since then I have focus, drive and know exactly what path I want to be on.
If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?
