Where are you from?

Middleton-in-Teesdale.

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I chose Northumbria University because of its excellent facilities for what I wanted to do, also the city is not to far away from home so this is the ideal place for me to start my career.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is an amazing city, its culture and bright nightlife are what makes university on top of studying.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

The fact that everyone is friendly, I haven't got a bad word to say about the place.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming?  Was it easy to fit in?

So easy to fit in, from day one my lecturers were welcoming and just over the course of a month the whole course stared gelling as a family.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

Meeting people from all over, even outside of the UK who share the same passion and drive for design as I do.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

My lecturers, they have shown me who and what I can be through meeting with professionals out in the real world, after university.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

My lecturers and my friends. We are all in the same boat and its good to help others who are in need of it and then they return the favour.

What is your favourite place on campus?

The Students' Union.

What is the best thing about your course?

The people. They are the same as me, we all have design in common and want to strive to achieve the best we can do.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

Time keeping, being nice to others as they return the favour, how to actually live away from home.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I would like to go into UI/ UX design. The course has opened new doors to me that i didn't even know existed before coming to Northumbria.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I have designed logo's for small businesses by advertising myself on Gumtree, gaining experience and earning a bit of extra cash doing what I love.

Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.

Yes, last year we went to Prague. This made us all closer as we all got to know each other better and learning about different cultures was great.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Do it, don't hesitate. I never and it's the best decision I have ever made.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

Confidence, I was shy when I came but standing in front of people presenting has gotten me over that barrier.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

It's absolutely fantastic!

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?
