Inter-Disciplinary Research Group- Business, Humanities, Innovation, Visitor Economies.

The (B- HIVE) RIG is an interdisciplinary research group through collaboration and ‘Hive- minding’ seeks to promote an understanding of the role of the social sciences as elemental to the future developments of business practices and pedagogies within the Faculty.

With an ambition to be transformative by using creative approaches to feed into business development, this research interest group (RIG) offers a commitment to a cross-departmental research by drawing business social science based academic disciplines and the Creative Industries together to develop innovation in teaching practices, policymaking and research. 

Aims 

The (B- HIVE) RIG is an interdisciplinary research group through collaboration and ‘Hive- minding’ seeks to promote an understanding of the role of the social sciences as elemental to the future developments of business practices and pedagogies within the Faculty. With an ambition to be transformative by using creative approaches to feed into business development, this research interest group (RIG) offers a commitment to a cross-departmental research by drawing business social science based academic disciplines and the Creative Industries together to develop innovation in teaching practices, policymaking and research. 

From the foundations of an inter-disciplinary group of social science-oriented business academics from fields of practice to include: business, tourism and events and the creative industries, our purpose is to evoke a culture of critical debate that leads to research outputs, research events and workshops. This also with a view to securing both internal and external funding for projects. Through these developments, explore the notion of ‘inter-disciplinary teaching’  our ambition is to share Learning and Teaching practices within in the faculty to offer models of good practice drawn from our creative ‘Hive Minding’ experiments. 

 

BENEFITS 

• To foster a deeper engagement with inter-disciplinary practices within the Business School.

• To consider what the social sciences and humanities can bring to business students by sharing by bringing ideas, approaches and personnel from different departments at Northumbria University as means to support innovation thinking. 

• To promote alternative approaches taken from social science & humanities/ creativity and entrepreneurship to inspire and support innovation thinking in business students. 

• To develop theories that would feed into Management Studies and Policy Making. 

• To promote visibility of (Tourism and Events) within the faculty.
