Pro Vice-Chancellor (International)

Jon ReastJon Reast

Jon joined Northumbria University as Pro Vice-Chancellor for International in October 2015.

He has worked in the UK university sector for 25 years, working for three Triple Crown UK Business Schools. He was previously the Faculty Dean of Management and Law at Bradford University, working with a substantial overseas partnership network and led the University of Bradford’s Internationalisation strategy. Jon was also formerly Professor of Marketing and Research Cluster Head for Marketing at Bradford University.

Prior to this, Jon was the Head of Department and Director of the Centre for Marketing Innovations and Applications at Hull University Business School (UK) and Director of Marketing MSc Programmes at Leeds University Business School (UK).

Jon’s teaching specialisms have been in Marketing Strategy, Relationship Marketing, Marketing Ethics, CSR and Marketing Communications. Jon has professional marketing experience in healthcare, toiletries, food and beverage sectors, working for companies such as Reckitt & Colman (now Reckitt-Benckiser) and Kraft General Foods and has also consulted widely.

Jon is a graduate from Leeds University (BA Econ) and Leicester University (MBA) with a PhD from Leeds University.

As the Pro Vice-Chancellor for International, Jon’s main responsibility is leading Northumbria University’s International Strategy. This includes International and European student recruitment, the overseas degree programme and research partnerships, staff and student exchange, international student performance and the internationalisation of the student experience. In addition to this, Jon is proud to be leading on the University’s new Integrated Sport, Physical Activity, Health and Wellbeing strategy.

As the Pro Vice-Chancellor for International, Jon, along with the other Pro Vice-Chancellors, advise the Vice-Chancellor on matters relating to the management of the University. Although primarily responsible for the growth and development of the University’s International Strategy and the international development of Northumbria University to grow a strong global reputation and enhance market position, Jon is also responsible for the development of the university IT Strategy. The IT and Digital strategies are important enablers to the delivery of the overall university strategy.

Until recently, Jon was the co-editor of the Corporate Social Responsibility Section of the Journal of Business Ethics.

Jon’s research work has previously been published in journals such as the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Psychology and Marketing, Long Range Planning, Journal of Marketing Management, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Advertising Research and International Journal of Advertising.
