Submit an abstract

Call for Abstracts for Papers

To present a paper at the conference, choose the most appropriate stream or current topic for your proposed paper, prepare an abstract of no more than 250 words, and submit your proposal via Oxford Abstracts.

  • Each delegate can be named in only two paper submissions.
  • The deadline to submit an abstract is Thursday 3rd December 2026.
  • If you submit an abstract by Thursday 29th October 2026, you will receive a decision by Thursday 12th November 2026.
  • If you submit an abstract after Thursday 29th October 2026, you will receive a decision by Thursday 14th January 2027.
  • If your abstract is accepted, you need to register to attend the conference by Thursday 12th February 2027.

If you would like to propose a Special Session outside of the SLSA Streams and Current Topics, please get in touch with the organising committee at slsa2027@northumbria.ac.uk

AI should not be used to generate abstracts. Where there is evidence of AI being used to generate an abstract, this will result in rejection.

Please note that you must make it clear whether your proposal is an abstract for a paper or a poster – it is not possible to submit the same abstract for both. Note also that the conference does not facilitate the publication of papers – acceptance of an abstract is for the conference only.

When selecting abstracts for inclusion in the conference, stream convenors will consider whether the abstract is sufficiently socio-legal and the extent to which it fits in the stream. All other considerations are a matter of academic judgement

Reasonable Adjustments

The SLSA conference is an in-person conference and it is expected that participants will present their papers in person. We also, however, seek to be an inclusive and accessible conference. If you have a disability or health issue, or caring responsibility, that would preclude you from attending the conference, you can request to present online as a reasonable adjustment. The SLSA is not a hybrid conference so online participation beyond presentation is not possible.

Reasonable adjustments, as set out in the Equality Act 2010, relate to the removal of barriers to participation that disadvantage colleagues with disabilities or long-term health conditions, or because of their caring responsibilities. Requests are required to be made during the abstract submission process to facilitate suitable planning and scheduling of papers by the stream convenors and conference organisers.

Where such requests are accepted:

•    Stream convenors and conference organisers will create a remote access link via Teams and coordinate arrangements for online presentations. Any further participation beyond facilitating online presentations cannot be guaranteed.

•    No discounts will be offered to the conference registration fee, but the SLSA does offer bursaries, details of which can be found on the conference website.
