School: Communities and Education

Dr Jessica Collins is an Assistant Professor and Programme Lead for the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision within the Children and Young People’s Psychological Therapies (CYP-PT) Programmes, where she also teaches across the programme portfolio.

Jess is also a clinically active HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist and a BABCP-accredited CBT therapist, with experience delivering psychological interventions to adults, children and families across a range of specialist mental health services, including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Neonatal Psychology.

As a clinical academic, Jess’s research is grounded in her clinical experience, with a focus on improving the accessibility, quality and delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions for children, young people and families, as well as mental health service delivery for these populations. Her work includes evaluating the effectiveness of psychological interventions and developing support for young people and families in physical health settings. She is a Co-Investigator on an EPSRC-funded project piloting a co-designed peer support group for adolescents and young adults, in collaboration with Newcastle Hospitals.

Jess has a particular interest in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and is currently supervising a PhD project exploring the presentation of OCD in autistic young people. She is also a clinical field supervisor for a Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Teesside University exploring parents’ experiences of caring for older siblings while their baby is admitted to a neonatal unit.
