Our Alumni - Work For Us
Stephen Clark is a Consultant Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgeon at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne and is the Director of Cardiopulmonary Transplantation. He is also a Medical Examiner.
He is Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplantation in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of Northumbria.
He was appointed in 2000 after training in Newcastle, London, Cambridge and Toronto. He is Chairman of the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers. He is a former Clinical Director for Quality and Patient Safety.
Stephen represents the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland on CORESS and is a member of the SCTS Transplantation Sub-Committee. He has a long standing interest in medicolegal practice, human factors, fatigue effects, patient safety checklists and protocols.
He has an ongoing commitment to setting up heart and lung transplant programs in Asia, especially Sri Lanka where he guided the first heart transplant there last year.
