Dr Engy Ghoniem

Research Fellow

Department: Mechanical and Construction Engineering

Dr. Engy Ghoniem received her BSc and MSc in Production – Mechanical Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt, in 2006 and 2012, respectively. She earned her PhD from the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology in 2017. Following her PhD, she joined the Production Engineering Department at Alexandria University as a lecturer.

With over 15 years of experience in Material Science and Smart Materials, Engy gained a robust background in Graphene and Carbon-based Materials. She also has extensive knowledge of renewable energy, particularly in supercapacitors, fuel cells, and batteries. Her work with supercapacitors sparked an interest in electric vehicles, leading her to research energy storage and the automotive industry. From 2019 to 2022, she held various postdoctoral and teaching fellow positions at the University of Southampton, UK. She has contributed to several EPSRC projects, including TransEnergy – Road 2 Rail Energy Exchange (R2REE) and the UK-India Clean Energy Centre (JUICE) (EP/P003605/1). 

In 2022, Engy joined Northumbria University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, where she managed several EU projects, including SALIENT, GIANCE, and ZEvRA, utilising her eco-design and materials sustainability expertise.
