Dr. Gao joined Northumbria University in 2011. Dr. Gao is the senior member of IEEE, and HEA fellow.

Dr. Gao is the Head of Electrical Power and Control Systems Research Group

Dr. Gao is currently the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, ISA Transactions, IEEE Access, and Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing. He is the editorial board member of Renewable Energy.
