Dr Jing Jiang

Senior Lecturer

Department: Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering

Dr. Jing Jiang is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, Physics & Electrical Engineering, and joined the University of Northumbria at Newcastle in Sept. 2018. She received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Edinburgh (U.K.) in 2011. From 2011 to 2014, she was a Research Fellow in the Institute for Communication Systems at the University of Surrey, where she was involved in the 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) project as a main researcher for the key work area of New Air-interface, and performed research on the massive MIMO technique for energy efficient 5G wireless communication systems. From 2015 to 2018, she was a Research Associate in the Department of Engineering at the University of Durham, and performed research on information and communication technologies on future energy systems (e.g., smart grid). At Durham, she was involved in the EU H2020-MSCA project "TESTBED" (2017-2019, €882k), the EPSRC project "TOPMOST" (2016-2018, £101k), the EU H2020 project "SmartEMC2" (2015-2017, €3.8M), and the ERDF project "SWIi" (2017-2019, £2.5M).

Now she is Northumbria Principal Investigator (PI) for the “TESTBED2” project (2020-2025, ID: 872172) with a total €1.46M funding from the EU under H2020 Marie Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange programme, testing and evaluating sophisticated information and communication technologies for enabling scalable smart grid deployment.

Dr Jing Jiang has been involved in a number of activities with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE): She is serving (or served) as a technical program committee (TPC) member for many IEEE flagship conferences, e.g., IEEE ICC, IEEE VTC, and IEEE/CIC ICCC. She is a peer reviewer for a number of IEEE prestigious journals. She is now on the Editorial Board of:

  • IET Smart Grid Journal as a Subject Editor;
  • IET Communications Journal as an Associate Editor;
  • EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking as an Associate Editor;
  • Energies as a Guest Editor for the special issue "Wireless Power Transfer 2018".
