Waseem Toraubally is Reader in Economics at Newcastle Business School.
Prior to joining NBS in 2024, Waseem held full-time teaching and research positions across a range of UK Higher Education Institutions. He obtained his PhD from the University of Manchester in 2017.
He is also Associate Fellow of the Centre for Research in Economic Theory and its Applications at the University of Warwick.
Waseem’s approach to education is explicitly centred upon research-led teaching. His teaching interests lie in all areas of economics. Amongst others, he has taught on Advanced Mathematics, Advanced Statistics, Mathematical Economics, Mathematical Finance, Managerial Economics, Labour Economics, and Industrial Organisation to university students at all levels.
He is Fellow of Advance HE (formerly, Higher Education Academy).
Waseem’s research has strongly gravitated towards Pure and Applied Microeconomic Theory, International Economics/Finance, Financial Economics, and Game Theory. In particular, he specialises in the analysis and application of imperfect competition in general equilibrium with a view to overcoming highly practical policy challenges.
His work has been published in ABS3/4 journals in economics, operations research, and regional studies including the European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Mathematical Economics, and Journal of Regional Science, amongst others.
He is currently probing into the possibility of using game-theoretic techniques to solve issues related to sustainability (strategic sustainability).
He welcomes suitably trained PhD students in the above-mentioned research areas.
