Mobility Scholarships

Santander offers funding for students to travel to partner universities across the globe.

Santander, through Santander Universities, works to encourage the international exchange, to facilitate access to university, to promote specialist research and education through scholarships and grants.

What are Santander mobility grants?

The mobility grants are awards up to the value of £1,500 for students. They aim to encourage collaborations with institutions in the Santander Universities Network.

Students can do a range of projects including exchange, lab placements, research and summer schools.

Grants are used to pay for travel and accommodation of outbound visits.

Which universities can I visit?

The grant covers research collaboration with universities that are part of the Santander Universities network only in the following partner universities;

What costs can this grant cover?

The grant is to cover travel or subsistence for the traveller. There is no length requirement and the additional costs must be covered by personal funding. The agreement with Santander only allows £1,500 per participant.

What are the requirements?

Applications are open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students from Northumbria University.

Undergraduate students must already have an offer to study abroad and have accepted the place prior to applying for the grant.

The deadline for application to study abroad in 2021 will be determined in September once we know what travel is possible from January 2021 onwards and any COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.  The link to the application site can be found here

Undergraduate students will take part in the Ambassador programme representing Northumbria during their time on exchange.

Postgraduate and research students will be required to submit a short impact report within four weeks of their return and be part of the Northumbria University international research network. 

Applicants should demonstrate how the visit will benefit their research/education and in turn how this will benefit others at Northumbria and the partner university.   Applicants should also highlight how they will further strengthen and support the development of a strong partnership in the country of destination.

Deadline for students going out in January 2021 will be 30 October 2020.
