Hobbies continued...Travelling

Margaret Scott Student Life

I was 22 when I first left the United States. I know that may seem crazy to some of you. I guess, I was just a bit of a late bloomer when it came to travelling. I had so many friends that had taken a big European trip or had taken a semester to study abroad and all I heard was how AMAZING it was. Just a year ago my passport was bare and stamp-less, it was safe to say  never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get to live in England and travel the world but somehow here I am.

My first adventure was a 2 week service trip to Uganda. I remember driving to the village with my head out the window, looking at a beautiful blue sky and I just couldn't stop smiling. We passed over the Nile River and saw monkeys crossing the road, but all I could think was, "I cannot believe this is happening." The experience truly changed my life. When I came back I realised I had definitely caught the travel bug. Only three months later I set off on my next adventure, half way across the world, to Newcastle! Studying abroad has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Since arriving in England I have travelled to 6 different countries and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

To say I have absolutely fallen in love with travelling would be an understatement. I spend a unhealthy amount of time searching for cheap flights and scrolling through Instagram looking at the most beautiful travel destinations. At the moment my dream trip is to go to southeast Asia and spend at least a month exploring all the beautiful islands. It is hard to put into words how magical travelling is. When I first step off the plane there is just a moment of pure excitement.  There is just so much anticipation of what this new destination holds and the amazing memories I will get to make. It simply just makes me feel more alive.

Up next I will be headed to Corfu, Greece! This holiday will be especially special because my mom will be coming with me. It will be her first time out of the country and I can't wait for to give her the travel bug too.
