Programmes

Durham Constabulary has teamed up with experts at Northumbria University to develop two distinct training options that support potential police officers from a range of backgrounds to pursue a career in the force:

These courses have been designed to give police officers varied experiences and skillsets that create a platform for any career they choose in the police. Both routes combine operational duties with academic learning – with the majority of your time spent on the frontline, plus protected learning time. You will undertake training in areas critical to effective 21st century policing, such as evidence-based policing, decision-making and discretion, risk and public protection and criminality and crime prevention, and have access to first class facilities and expert trainers to develop these skills.

Bringing together criminology, law, social work, forensics and digital with core personal skills like leadership and problem solving, these unique, fully funded programmes provide a springboard for a long and rewarding career with Durham Constabulary. They offer unrivalled training and job security and long-term earning potential – starting at £24,780 – with no student fees to repay.

Apprentice recruits will be on probation for the duration of the course – three years for the PCDA, and two years for the DHEP. Not sure which course is right for you? Don’t worry – Durham Constabulary will identify which route you should take based on the information you provide in your application.

Further details on the PCDA can be found here, please email policerecruiting@durham.police.uk for more information about DHEP.
