Ways Our Business And Management MBus Will Help To Boost Your Leadership Career

We look at 4 modules that will prepare you for success.

At Newcastle Business School, we’re passionate about creating business leaders with the right expertise and ethics to confront the commercial challenges of the future.

Our Business and Management MBus has been designed to help you to build on all you have learned during your previous studies and draw on your current professional business experience.

Each of the 11 modules on the course has been handpicked by us to ensure you develop key employability skills and the knowledge required to take on a more senior role.

Below, we take a closer look at four of them and explain how they will empower you to manage a brighter future.

1) Strategy

Every business, no matter its size, needs a strategy to be successful, and every effective business leader should be equipped to devise and drive this strategy.

Our focused module will help you to grow your knowledge of management practice and strategic thinking. Your learning will be concentrated on key themes including the impact that the external environment has on organisations, the strategic choices available to companies to promote their commercial success and how strategic directions align with corporate social responsibility and ethics frameworks.

By the end of the module, you’ll have the confidence needed to engage with and contribute to the implementation of your own organisation’s strategy ‒ both of which will be key in helping you to progress.

 2) Business Analytics for Management

According to recent LinkedIn data, business analysis is a “hard” skill that’s in demand in 2019. Possessing this ability, therefore, will be of great value in the workplace and could enhance your future prospects.

Throughout this Business Analytics for Management module, you’ll build your capabilities in activity and data modelling, scorecard and problem solving. With a strong emphasis on using tools such as Strategy Maps, you’ll also learn how to devise quantitative measures and calculations, and provide critical, informative management interpretations based their results.

You’ll finish the module with the analytical and practice based skills needed to influence important decision making that employers are crying out for.

3) Analysing Self for Strategic Career Development

The best leaders don’t just recognise the talents of those in their team – they also recognise their own strengths and weaknesses. Our Analysing Self for Strategic Career Development will support you to hone these valuable self-awareness and critical evaluation skills.

In the first half of the module, you’ll develop a better understanding of yourself, your skillset and your employability prospects. In addition to exploring contemporary theories and research on the subject, you’ll also complete self-reflective activities, encouraging you to analyse everything from your emotional and cultural intelligence to your leadership capabilities.

Next, you’ll learn how to apply this new self-knowledge effectively in order to achieve your career goals. You’ll study the international labour market, increasing your awareness of the leadership opportunities open to you, and receive expert careers guidance, including how to build a professional CV that stands out to employers.

In summary, by the end of this unique module, you’ll be able to both recognise and articulate how you could add real value to any organisation.

 4) Entrepreneurial Leadership

In our highly competitive world, all organisations need creative and enterprising people. Understanding how to navigate the rapidly changing commercial environment, but also spot  opportunities for innovation and the new ventures it provides, is a skill any business leader should possess. This module is designed to help you develop effectiveness through the lens of entrepreneurial leadership.

Throughout, you’ll cover six key topics:

  1. Creativity and Design for Innovation
  2. Future Search
  3. Making a Difference
  4. Connectivity
  5. Managing Innovation
  6. Entrepreneurial Leadership and Identity.

Each one will help you to build a picture of the role that creativity plays in business, and you’ll learn how to harness it to drive change, generate new ideas and create a better future.

By the end of the module, you’ll possess a number of key skills to ensure your entrepreneurial effectiveness, including collaboration and entrepreneurial leadership. As well as this, you’ll be prepared to take an ethically sound and culturally sensitive approach to your profession.
