South Shields

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

The law course, which is different to most courses as it includes the LPC. This was a major factor in my decision. I had also heard good things about the course I wanted to do, making the choice seem easy.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is the best student city! Everyone is friendly and the night life is great, if you don't fancy a drink there's plenty to do and various places to visit.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

The best thing about living in Newcastle is definitely the people! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, they definitely make you feel like your at home which can be a major issue for those who move away to go to University.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Everyone was lovely when we started at Northumbria University, within one week everyone was friends and chatting to each other like they'd been friends for years. As for the lecturers, I have met some amazing people who can't do enough for you. I definitely feel like I could confide in various staff members if I was finding things difficult.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

I enjoy the atmosphere within the university, although studious it is also playful at the same time. As we were told various times in our first week - 'Work hard AND play harder.' That definitely sums up the atmosphere in the university.

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

All of the seminar tutors have been amazing whilst I've been at university. They will answer any questions you may have for them or try their best to give some sort of answer.

What is your favourite place on campus?

My favourite place has to be Habita in the Students' Union, it is always full of life no matter what time of day it is. It sells great food at reasonable prices and is my little home away from home.

What is the best thing about your course?

The best thing about my course is the added LPC, very few courses offer this. It also means my training to be a solicitor will be significantly shorter!

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

The most valuable lesson I have learnt is to stay up to date, it is so easy to fall behind, but so hard to work and get yourself back up to date.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I would like to carry on my training and become a Solicitor. Although the path will be hard, Northumbria have equipped me with the skills I need to help me stand out from the crowd when applying for placements.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

I would explain that it is so much easier if you keep up to date with all work during university, if you miss a seminar try to make a different one. It is so easy to get behind, yet it takes little work to stay up to date.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I have definitely came out of my shell whilst at Northumbria, my confidence is at an all time high. I no longer fear standing up in front of a group of people to give a presentation or to lead a group in a research project. Northumbria has made me a new person.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Welcoming, Challenging, Fun!

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?
