Contemporary Photographic Practice BA Hons Student Sarah OwenWhere are you from?

York.

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

I had heard that it was a good university and I knew Newcastle relatively well so I was more comfortable moving here.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I think it is a lovely city and there are some great places around too. I like to go shopping, dine out and go to the beach when the weather is nice.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

The amount of things there are to do in my free time, I'm never bored!

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, I felt very comfortable.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

Making new friends and studying for my course, it's really interesting!

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

My tutors, they have been very helpful.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

The artists who do the visiting lectures.

What is your favourite place on campus?

My studio space! I can be creative and messy!

What is the best thing about your course?

It is exactly what I enjoy doing, and I have learnt so much already.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I would like to be an Architectural Photographer. I think my technical skills in photography have improved since starting the course and also my research skills.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I currently take photographs at two derelict buildings through permission of the owners, which is what I enjoy to do. I enjoy networking so this is a great experience for me.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Enjoyable, beneficial, fun.

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Yes!
