History, English and Creative Writing

Why study a History, English or Creative Writing Masters at Northumbria?

Human beings make sense of their place in the world by telling stories. Sometimes these stories justify the existing order, and sometimes they challenge it. As students of the Humanities, we examine these stories, and seek answers to big questions: Who am I? How do I relate to you? What does it mean to be human?

Our Department of Humanities includes the Divisions of English Literature, Linguistics, Creative Writing, American Studies and History, and we address these questions head-on in our postgraduate courses. We promote quality, diversity and innovation in our research and our teaching, which range across national, transnational and global contexts. We are home to international journals including English, French History, Immigrants & Minorities, English Language Teaching and Holocaust Studies.

All of our courses are offered via full or part-time routes, and a number are delivered online to flex around your lifestyle:
