Student Outcomes and Learning Gain

In making the award the TEF panel noted that Northumbria’s “students achieve excellent outcomes” which is extremely important to us, Northumbria is consistently Top 10 in the UK for Graduates in professional employment (DLHE 2014/15) and the Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO) 2016 places Northumbria in the top third of the sector rankings in terms of the percentages of graduates in sustained employment. This has been achieved through personal support services, graduate start-up and careers assistance. Our commitment to providing effective support to help keep students on track and achieve high attainment is evidenced through Northumbria Top 10 ranking in the Guardian University League Table for the level of progress students make whilst at university; including the improvement in their skills and knowledge.

Northumbria’s Careers and Employment Service support our students from first year to final year and beyond graduation to help achieve their career goals. The increased support and engagement with our students has progressed the Destination Leavers of Higher Education outcomes. Our Student and Graduate Enterprise teams support  sustainable start-up graduate businesses, with more than 120 companies being started by Northumbria students and graduates since 2011. Northumbria is ranked 1st in the UK for graduate start-ups (HEBCIS 2015/16).
