What will I learn on this module?

In this module you will engage with knowledge to professionally, systematically and impartially approach the preservation, extraction and interpretation of all relevant digital evidence. Further you will develop analytical and evaluative skills in the appropriate use of digital forensic tools for solving problems in a variety of environments and problem situations

How will I learn on this module?

You will have the opportunity to analyse and examine digital forensic case studies using the latest industry standard specialist digital forensic software, giving you invaluable hands-on practical use. Topics will be introduced in lectures and discussed through seminar activities and guided learning activities. The theoretical material on digital forensics will be re-enforced through the critical analysis and discussion of case studies in seminar sessions as well as sessions on the use of digital forensics tools in the analysis of chosen case studies in lab-based practical sessions. You will be encouraged to adopt an independent learning style, acquiring and applying knowledge through your own research by a series of guided activities and exercises.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

Lecturers and tutors will offer you guidance on studying and what they expect of you. Feedback will be via your classroom based sessions, however further informal feedback can be arranged. You can access a number of University resources and guidance for example, how to study effectively, write assignments, revise for your exams and avoid plagarism.

What will I be expected to read on this module?

All modules at Northumbria include a range of reading materials that students are expected to engage with. Online reading lists (provided after enrolment) give you access to your reading material for your modules. The Library works in partnership with your module tutors to ensure you have access to the material that you need.

2. Critically evaluate how the core concepts, knowledge and practice of digital forensics investigations have developed through research.

How will I be assessed?

Summative assessment will be a single piece of coursework which assesses all of the Module Learning Outcomes. You will undertake a detailed digital forensic investigation of given digital evidence and presenting your findings in a report. This assessment addresses all of the module learning outcomes.
Formative feedback is provided throughout seminar sessions.
