Real Estate Management

Real Estate Management Student Georgeohara 255Where are you from?

Ilkley

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

Because a Real Estate Management degree from Northumbria University is highly respected, the city appeals to me, and it's far enough from home to feel completely independent.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I now consider Newcastle a home from home. I feel comfortable around the city and within the suburbs such as Jesmond. I enjoy Northumberland, as I have visited the county numerous times with my family. I enjoy Slayley Hall Golf Course, visiting St. James' Park, and the city nightlife.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

I was surprised at the prices of evenings out. They are much cheaper than the prices you would find in cities such as Leeds. I was impressed with how easily accessible the city centre was, how welcoming the locals are of students. In my first year I particularly enjoyed living in halls. And while living in Jesmond in my 2nd year, I enjoyed every minute of the small town.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

Exceptionally. Both students and lecturers were exceptionally welcoming.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

Making new friends. Practicing a degree I enjoy. Exploring a new city. And making the most of the nightlife.

What is your favourite place on campus?

I enjoy Sport Central and the SU. They can both be used as social tools, Sport Central being the healthier of the two.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects? Tells us about the highlights?

I took part in some rugby matches, both internal and against other universities. Due to other commitments I have been unable to play as much as I would have liked. I have played in two internal football teams in university tournaments. I have been involved in cricket coaching volunteer jobs outside of university time.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

The hard work you put in, mirrors the end product and result.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I would like to get involved with investment property management. After shadowing colleagues in my office during my placement year, I have studied their protocols and ways of dealing with certain issues and implied them in my own work.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement? What were your most memorable experiences?

I have been on placement at Knight Frank LLP, I have particularly enjoyed carrying out viewings and negotiations between myself and large international companies.

Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips? If so, please tell us about them.

In first year we travelled to Leeds. And in second year we travelled to London, both were interesting trips and very valuable to my learning.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

Get stuck in to everything from the word go!

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I feel I have always been an outgoing and confident person. I think I have defined these skills and I have also become more mature and more independent.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Valuable learning experience!

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Most definitely!
