MSc International Development student wins prize for dissertation

A Senior Civil Servant from Bangladesh studying Northumbria University’s MSc International Development has won the prize for best Social Sciences postgraduate dissertation. Md Anwar Imam was awarded with the prize at Northumbria University’s Winter Congregation in December 2015 for his dissertation on Social Safety Net Programmes in Bangladesh.

Responsible for overseeing social development programmes in Upazila, Bangladesh, Anwar came to study in the Department of Social Sciences as part of his professional development funded by the Bangladeshi government, commenting that “My studies at Northumbria have enriched my knowledge base ...  which will enable me to progress further in my career”. Director of the Centre for International Development, Professor Matt Baillie Smith commented “We are absolutely delighted at Anwar’s achievement and the recognition he has had for his work with us at Northumbria. We are confident he can go on to make really good use of it to help address poverty in Bangladesh and we look forward to hearing how his work develops following his MSc International Development with us”.
