NBS Digital Toolkit

A free-to-use digital tool for building information modelling to complete Level-2 BIM as defined by the UK BIM Task Group.

This tool includes the following components delivered digitally:

1. A unified classification system: The main tables within Uniclass2, which follows the ISO framework for classification ISO/DIS 12006-2, have been extended to give the UK industry a single, unified classification system.

2. Level of definition guidelines: More than 5700 object templates covering building fabric, structure, engineering services, landscape and infrastructure. The templates include both Level of Detail (LOD) information for geometric representation and Level of Information (LOI) guidance for non-geometric properties

3. A digital plan of work tool: A digital plan of work tool to allow the project team to agree who will provide what information, to what level of definition and when, throughout a construction project. This project specific plan uses classification and Level of Definition guidelines to provide clarity on responsibilities. All data is in an open documented format in line with buildingSMART International standards.

Project partners: RIBA Enterprises, Northumbria University, Newcastle University, Mott MacDonald, BDP, Microsoft
