Northumbria ranks top 20 in the StudentCrowd’s University Awards

2nd August 2021

Northumbria University, Newcastle has been recognised in the 2021 Best Universities awards by StudentCrowd - the only awards based solely on student reviews.

StudentCrowd is an online resource for students, to read and write reviews about their university experience, the city they are living in, their part-time employment and more.

Its annual Best Universities awards cover several categories including, but not limited to: Campus and Facilities, Clubs and Societies and Students’ Union, in each of which Northumbria has ranked within the top 20 universities across the UK.

The rankings from each category table are based on the analysis of almost 20,000 reviews, takingthe average score over the 24-month period from July 2019 to July 2021.

Northumbria University has invested more than £250 million in world-class facilities in recent years, creating a buzzing, safe and supportive environment for students.

The Students’ Union has over 100 societies and a huge variety of volunteering opportunities, making it a great place to meet people and get involved in university life. Students also have a team of Sabbatical Officers within the Union who are dedicated to representing them and making improvements in the student experience, which is reflected in the University’s ranking.

Gaz Smith, President of Northumbria Students’ Union said: “Our mission is to have a positive impact on all our students' lives. This can mean anything from providing independent and confidential academic advice, to building communities on campus through accessible social spaces and supporting our societies as they explore their passions and interests. We listen to what students want and need and we develop our services in line with what they tell us - so it’s fantastic to see that this is recognised with these awards.”

Northumbria currently hold the 29th position in the overall live StudentCrowd UK University League Table which ranks the top 140 institutions in the country, with an average score of 4.15 out of 5.

Earlier this year Northumbria secured a place inside the UK top 50 of The Complete University Guides for the first time. This saw the University ranking within the top 10 nationally in several programmes including Communication and Media; Building; Counselling; Psychotherapy & Occupational Therapy, and Information Technology & Systems.

A limited number of places are still available at Northumbria University this year for high achieving students through Clearing. Visit www.northumbria.ac.uk/clearing or call the Clearing Hotline on +44 (0)80 0085 1085 to find out more.
