Dr Tor Alexander Bruce

An interdisciplinary researcher working in applied research between the health and life sciences and human computer interaction. A core focus is the design, trial and evaluation of digital, intelligent systems to support a range of mental and physical healthcare needs. Notable research is: The Timeline; The Intuitive Jacket; The WISE Room; The Reflection Chair - linked to international presentation and publication of work. Previously, a registered charity founder and CEO who raised £500,000+ to implement an alternative education facility for young people in the North East of England. A published author of two books and a Master practitioner in Neurolinguistic Programming.

An interdisciplinary researcher within Health and Life Sciences, Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Human Centred Design. A qualified teacher and AFHEA certified Associate Lecturer linked to critical innovation and prototyping toward social change. A recent focus towards developing, implementing and evaluating novel proof of concept systems and interventions for trauma and also for pedagogical uses in digital mental healthcare and education, incorporating a human-centric, qualitative methodology and using Adobe XD, Unity and Intuiface as build-tools. From a Third Sector background, a former charity founder and CEO showing depth and consistency in strategic leadership, social problem-solving, partnership-building and implementation of concepts with a human empowerment focus with marginalised children and young people (CYP). A bid-writer raising in excess of £500,000 and current contributor to awarded academic bids. Research has involved cross-sectoral, multidisciplinary partnership building, presenting in Japan (ACM CHI), the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and disseminating findings from a published research paper in Aaarhus, Denmark. Awarded NHS-HRA IRAS approval for research at James Cook Hospital, Teeside. Consistency in research alignment to Integrated Health and Social Care IDRT; Research Pillar: Innovative Health and Complex Interventions; REF28; also the Centre for Health and Social Equity (CHASE) agenda, changing barriers with surrounding communities, involving participants as experts by experience. Ongoing Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), NVivo and SPSS training.
