2016/17 entry tuition fees for Home applicants

The tuition fee for the 2016 academic year is £9,000. For both Home and EU undergraduate students, tuition fees are dependent on Government policy and may be subject to small increases in line with the UK Government policy and approvals.  You should expect to pay tuition fees for every year you are in attendance and be aware these fees may increase annually.  On the basis of current Government guidance any increase is unlikely to exceed the increase in inflation by reference to the Retail Price Index (RPI).

EU students starting a Northumbria University degree programme in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 academic years will be charged the same tuition fees as UK students for the duration of their studies at the University.

To help you manage your finances, there is a range of support packages available in the form of bursaries and scholarships.

If you are studying on a course that carries a tuition fee and you take a sandwich/placement year you will only pay £1,000 during your placement year.

 Healthcare Professions

If you are studying on a course in one of the following areas you will not need to pay a tuition fee:

• Nursing
• Midwifery
• Operating Department Practice
• Physiotherapy
• Occupational Therapy

This is because such courses receive funding from the National Health Service Executive (NHSE). UK and EU students are also eligible to apply for a means-tested bursary.

Some Points to Remember 

• You won't pay upfront.  Repayment starts when a graduate begins to earn £21k/year or more and at the earliest in the April following graduation.
• If you earn less than £21k per year you will not repay anything.  Any outstanding debt is not transferable to partners or dependents.
• After 30 years any unpaid debt is cleared.
• Monthly payments are the same - whatever the debt. This is because they are calculated at 9% of income over £21,000.
• Student debts do not go on credit files - and mortgages will not necessarily be harder to obtain.
