Dr Gabriel Cucato

Assistant Professor

School: Sport Exercise and Rehabilitation

I am an Assistant Professor and Programme Lead for the MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology at Northumbria University. My academic journey began in Londrina, Paraná, Brazil, where I completed a degree in Physical Education (2003–2007). I then moved to São Paulo to work with Dr. Raphael Mendes Ritti-Dias, conducting research on resistance training and quality of life in patients with peripheral artery disease (2007–2009). In 2009, I began my doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Claudia Forjaz.

Since then, I have developed a research career as principal investigator in studies examining how exercise and physical activity impact cardiovascular function in patients with chronic disease, particularly peripheral artery disease. I also have experience leading and conducting multidisciplinary lifestyle interventions, clinical and epidemiological trials, and longitudinal studies. My additional areas of interest include psychological outcomes (e.g., perceived exertion of exercise), metabolic syndrome, cancer, physical fitness, cerebral function, and preoperative exercise therapy.
