Helen Simmons

Postgraduate Associate

Department: Northumbria School of Design

I'm a Senior Research Assistant on the Creative Fuse Programme and teach in the Design school on the International Year of Multidisciplinary Innovation (MDI) and Masters MDI courses.

I have worked in academia since 2021 after achieving my MA in Multidisciplinary Innovation at Northumbria University. Prior to that, I worked in the technology sector for over two decades helping large corporate clients in a variety of industries to address their organisational challenges through innovative digital solutions. I have experience in a wide range of specialities across the business lifecycle from sales and contract management to design, programme management and marketing.

I am keen to apply my business and academic skills to help society and improve social justice. I believe that amazing things happen when people, creativity and innovation are brought together and I enjoy fostering communities where this can happen.

I am passionate about well-being, sustainability and inclusivity. Outside of work I am mum to three children and in my spare time I volunteer for local charities, craft and indulge my curiosity about the world.
